Dance Movement Therapy Sessions!
This exciting project involves investigating the effects of preference assessments in Dance Movement Therapy Practices.
Recruiting children aged between 5 to 12 years old, who are on the Autism Spectrum and/or other related developmental disorders.
Dance sessions may either take place in the schools or your local community centers.
Your child will receive dance movement therapy (DMT) sessions, 45 minutes per session, one session per week.
Dance Movement Therapy uses movement and dance to support the intellectual, emotional, and motor functions of the body. As a form of expressive therapy, DMT looks at the correlation between movement and emotion.
You will be asked to fill out confidential questionnaires about your child’s behaviors and a few other questions relating to your child’s preferences.
A preference assessment session will be scheduled with your child after. In this process, a 60 seconds video of your child’s movements will also be recorded, which is optional. This recording will be analyzed to develop suitable dance movement goals/needs for your child.
After the series of Dance Movement Sessions, you will be required to fill up another questionnaire which will take approximately 30 minutes. Another 60 seconds video of your child’s movement will also be taken to measure any movement quality changes after the DMT sessions.
Volunteers and research assistants will be involved to help measure the changes in your child’s behaviors. All data collected in this research will be kept confidential and no names will be identified throughout this project.
